About Caren and CMC![]() Caren Madsen Consulting is a sole proprietor company. As needed, Caren brings in other professionals on assignments in order to provide a full range of client services.
Caren has more than 30 years of experience in advising senior executives in private industry, government and nonprofit organizations on communications and policy development. While most of her career has been dedicated to environmental issues at the local, state and federal levels of government, she also has experience working with private sector products and services. Over the course of 26 years, post-private industry, she served U.S. taxpayers through her career with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Department of the Interior. Her work has earned awards from the National Association of Government Communicators, the Society of Professional Journalists, Georgia Press Association and the Georgia Healthcare Association. For her work with nonprofits, she has been recognized by the Montgomery County (MD) Council as one of "40 Environmentalists Who Made a Difference in 40 Years" on the 40th anniversary of the first Earth Day as well as by the Girl Scouts of the Nation's Capital, Neighbors of the Northwest Branch and the Montgomery County Civic Federation. In 2010, Caren set up the environmental nonprofit Conservation Montgomery as one of the founders; she serves as the chair of the CM Board of Directors. She is also on the board of the nonprofit Safe Silver Spring. She is a graduate of the Partnership for Public Service Excellence in Government executive leadership program and the Department of Commerce Executive Leadership Development Program. In 2009, she worked in the Executive Office of the President with the Council for Environmental Quality. In addition to her professional communications experience, Caren is a yoga and Pilates instructor. Along with nature, her passions are fitness and healthy aging. |
